INTERNATIONAL DEBUT FOR NEW SSANGYONG TIVOLI XLV AND MIDSIZE SIV-2 CONCEPT AT GENEVA
86th Geneva International Motor Show 2016

– Tivoli range to be extended with XLV – the multi-role compact SUV with increased load carrying capability
– Mild hybrid SIV-2 concept hints at a future midsize contemporary multi-purpose crossover

International launch of the SsangYong Tivoli XLV

Following the successful launch of Tivoli, SsangYong will launch an extended car at Geneva to provide even more carrying capacity and practicality – Tivoli XLV. The car was shown as the XLV Air concept at the IAA motor show in Frankfurt last year, and following extremely favorable feedback the company has decided put the car into production.

Sharing the same platform and 2,600mm wheelbase as the Tivoli, the XLV features a lengthened body from behind the C pillar, an increase of 235mm over the standard car, expanding the load capacity to a huge 720 cubic litres of space. Meanwhile, the styling cues that distinguish Tivoli are retained, including its harmoniously fused SUV body design, sports coupé look and floating roofline.

Designed to offer a multi-role, multi-function solution to a wide range of customers, Tivoli XLV provides just the versatility needed to meet a wide range of individual lifestyles. It will be offered with a choice of a Euro 6 compliant 1.6 litre petrol or 1.6 litre diesel engine, and matched with the option of a 6-speed manual transmission or 6-speed Aisin automatic, two-wheel drive or four wheel drive.

Note: UK specification to be determined.

SIV-2 development concept

SsangYong will also showcase its SIV-2 (Smart Interface Vehicle) midsize premium SUV concept at the show.

As the next iteration on from the SIV-1 concept which was shown at Geneva in 2013, this takes a step further under the design concept of ‘Dynamic Motion’.

Based on SsangYong’s development theme of ‘Robust, Specialty, Premium’, this new concept pursues the emotional interface between the driver and car, and will evolve to become a key strategic model within the SsangYong range.

The SIV-2 is a mild hybrid, powered by a 1.5 litre direct injection turbocharged petrol engine combined with a 10kW electric motor-generator and a 500Wh lithium ion battery. This creates a 48V mild hybrid system which offers quiet and efficient driving, reduced CO2 emissions and silent running when idling and at slow speeds.

This eco-friendly concept features a lightweight body, a low centre of gravity and a chassis and suspension system that can be further developed to create alternative models with high efficiency powertrains such as HEV, PHEV and EV to future proof the SsangYong brand.

PEUGEOT: 3 World Premieres at the 86th Geneva International Motor Show

With 3 PEUGEOT World Premieres and the launch of its first SUV of the year at the Geneva Motor Show, the Lion continues on its path in 2016.

New PEUGEOT 2008, the World Premiere of the Brand’s compact SUV

January saw the PEUGEOT 2008 DKR win the Dakar Rally in magnificent style[1]. It won 9 out of 13 stages, including 2 one-two-threes, 5 one-twos and the final victory in its second participation in the South-American Dakar. After racing 9,500 km in atrocious conditions, PEUGEOT SPORT added to a long list of victories, which already includes four Dakar wins in Africa between 1987 and 1990, as well as success in various other events such as the Le Mans 24 Hours, the World Rally Championship, the World Rallycross Championship and Pikes Peak.

Six weeks after the Peterhansel/Cottret duo won in their PEUGEOT 2008 DKR, PEUGEOT is presenting the world premiere of the new PEUGEOT 2008, the Brand’s compact SUV, in Geneva.

The PEUGEOT 2008 entered the ring in 2013 with strong arguments. Customers loved its elegant design and dynamic features. There has been continual growth in volume, with production ramped up to 515,000 vehicles[2] worldwide – in Europe as well as Brazil and China – making the 2008 PEUGEOT’s most successful international product. In Europe, this success is illustrated by a place in the segment’s top 3 which has been firmly established since the launch.

To compound this performance, the PEUGEOT 2008 has been given a bold SUV design, with power and appeal. Its fender flares, vertical front grille and overriders confirm its robustness designed for everyday use. The Ultimate Red colour epitomises the power of the 2008.

The Access, Active and Allure levels are complemented by the superior GT Line. This new trim, common to the entire PEUGEOT range, adds a sporty and chic theme to the red/black spirit.

The PEUGEOT 2008 gives you a unique feeling of supreme control – which is addictive. The PEUGEOT i-Cockpit® embodies the driving characteristics of the PEUGEOT 2008: intuitiveness, flexibility, safety.

The Grip Control, an enhanced traction control system, extends the usability of the 2008 to all types of road conditions. It is combined with Mud & Snow certified winter tyres.

The Mirror Screen uses MirrorLinkTM and Apple Carplay® technology and, along with the reversing camera, equips the PEUGEOT 2008 with Active City Brake and Park Assist, rare in this segment.

All versions have that distinctive benchmark dynamic behaviour. The Euro6 engines ensure high-level driving pleasure while remaining fuel efficient. Four versions are Best-in-Class in their segment, including the 1.2L PureTech 130 S&S BVM6.

PEUGEOT Traveller: an invitation to luxury travel and comfort

Presented as a world exclusive at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, the PEUGEOT Traveller has made a remarkable entry into the Combispace and VIP Shuttle sector.

PEUGEOT Design provides this segment with the new distinctive features of the brand’s SUV and saloon cars. The PEUGEOT Traveller’s assertive design exudes strength and elegance.

PEUGEOT has equipped the Traveller with many other attractive features making it a benchmark in the segment. Its new base, adapted from the EMP2 modular platform, provides top quality, efficiency and record fuel consumption levels in the segment.

Its Euro6 BlueHDi engines are equipped with the most efficient pollution control technology on the market with a SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system upstream of the DFP (Diesel Particulate Filter). Already tried and tested since July 2013, they combine driving enjoyment and performance, offering up to 180 hp and 400 Nm. Thanks to this technology, the PEUGEOT Traveller range boasts an average CO2 emission level of only 140 g/km (5.4 l/100 km), crowning it best-in-class in the segment.

On board, the PEUGEOT Traveller promises calm journeys thanks to road qualities that are worthy of PEUGEOT’s expertise, as well as luxury comfort and ambience. Multiple configurations up to 9 seats and a wide range of equipment, sometimes exclusive in the segment, make the PEUGEOT Traveller a vehicle that makes life easy and adapts to everyday life.

As regards safety, the PEUGEOT Traveller was given the 5-star rating in the Euro NCAP tests, the results of which were released in December 2015.

PEUGEOT Traveller i-Lab, the VIP shuttle 3.0

The launch of the new PEUGEOT Traveller combispace confirms the brand’s goal of applying its dynamic strategy to all segments. With the PEUGEOT Traveller i-Lab, it presents its vision of the future for business customer travel. Connectivity is revolutionising the services offered for a unique and streamline experience.

In this segment, the PEUGEOT design provides new distinctive features from the brand’s SUVs and saloons.

Based on the EMP2 platform, this VIP shuttle 3.0 has an optimum balance between exterior volume and interior roominess.

For on-board guests, travelling becomes an inspiring journey that is conducive for business. The four individual seats are arranged opposite one another around a giant 32″ touch tablet, with the capacitive touchscreen and supported by an arch. With the WiFi hotspot, Bluetooth®, induction charging docks or virtual reality headset, all uses are possible.

For the driver, the PEUGEOT Traveller i-Lab’s technological equipment guarantees the satisfaction of its passengers. Journeys are made in complete safety with road sign reading and driver inattention monitoring devices.

The new generation of PEUGEOT connected 3D navigation informs the driver in real time and in a contextualised way. Therefore, it optimises journeys according to the traffic and the passenger’s agenda.

PEUGEOT 2008 DKR: The champion Lioness of the 2016 Dakar Rally[3] is presented at Geneva

It’s here, making its first public appearance since its return from South America: the PEUGEOT 2008 DKR number 302, driven by the Stéphane Peterhansel and Jean-Paul Cottret team – winner of the 2016 Dakar Rally. The feline beauty of the Dakar Lioness of Stephane Peterhansel, “Mister Dakar”, now etched a little deeper into Dakar Rally legend with this twelfth victory, is on display in Geneva. Lower and wider, it has a superbly enhanced muscular design. Sand dunes, rocky tracks, fords… it devoured all the traps which make the Dakar one of the last great adventures on the Planet.

Under its carbon skin, the PEUGEOT 2008 DKR hides double triangle coil spring suspension with 460 mm travel, as well as magnesium one-piece wheels matched to 37 inch Michelin tyres which are still as robust, but lighter and more efficient for tackling such diverse and difficult terrain. Under the engine cover beats the big cat’s heart – in spite of the flange imposed on it, the 3.0 litre twin-turbo diesel V6 had gained even more power, delivering 350 hp and 600 Nm torque. Its extended range was particularly valuable during the winding stages.

And the DAKAR 2016 heroes will be there too! Stéphane Peterhansel will be meeting PEUGEOT fans on 5 March and Sébastien Loeb on 11 March at the PEUGEOT stand.

Around the PEUGEOT 2008 DKR, PEUGEOT SPORT will be displaying its other creations:

308 GTi by PEUGEOT Sport, a radical version of the Brand’s Best-seller, with its 1.6 THP 270 hp engine
308 R HYbrid, the compact saloon which drives like a supercar, with its 500 hp hybrid powertrain!

PEUGEOT FRACTAL concept: the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit® of the future

With over 2.2 million customers won over since 2012 and the launch of the 208, the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit® has become the distinguishing marker of the latest designs from the Lion. In 2015, PEUGEOT unveiled a new prospective study through an innovative concept called PEUGEOT FRACTAL. Behind the futuristic design of this electric urban coupé is hidden a new version of the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit® where the attention to sound provides an even more instinctive driving experience.

Following on from sight and touch, hearing has become the third sense explored, giving driver and passengers a unique immersive experience thanks to a 9.1.2 sound system combining a high-quality 9.1 set-up that features tactile bass systems built into the back of each seat, developed by high-end specialist FOCAL, allowing the ‘spatialisation’ and ‘dynamisation’ of sound.

In the cabin, PEUGEOT FRACTAL focuses on innovative technology. The heads-up system comes with a digital tablet with HD holographic display, while the compact steering wheel has built-in touch pads and a double touch-sensitive interface to control the functions and acoustic ambiance. 80% of the interior trim surface is printed in 3D, such as the anechoic surfaces which guide the sound like in an auditorium.

Driven by an entirely electric powertrain, this urban coupé develops 204hp and has a 450 km range thanks to a streamlined design, a weight of just 1,000 kg and Tall & Narrow tyres with a narrow tread. It is certainly swift, reaching 100 km/h in 6’’8 and covering 1,000 m in 28’’8. It is perfectly at home in the city with its compact stance (just 3.81 m) and variable ground clearance of 7 to 11 cm.

PEUGEOT at Geneva: A design and warm environment for 3 World Premieres

Covering some 2650 m2, an emotive experience awaits the public in hall 6 at the Palexpo, with 3 world premieres – the New PEUGEOT 2008, PEUGEOT Traveller and PEUGEOT Traveller i-Lab – the PEUGEOT Fractal concept, the PEUGEOT 308 R HYbrid demonstration vehicle, the PEUGEOT 2008 DKR, winner of the 2016 Dakar Rally, and the entire PEUGEOT 8 range.

Peugeot will be showing off its sports expertise and technology in 3 themed areas. The GTi by PEUGEOT SPORT area will display the 308 GTi by PEUGEOT SPORT and the 208 GTi by PEUGEOT SPORT flanked by the PEUGEOT 308 R HYbrid and the PEUGEOT 2008 DKR, winner of the 2016 Dakar Rally. A 308 GTi by PEUGEOT SPORT simulator will allow the public to discover the driving experience offered by PEUGEOT SPORT’s latest model. The Technologies area will present the range of PureTech and BlueHDi efficient engines, the EAT6 gearbox and the PEUGEOT 308 R HYbrid powertrain. Finally, the Roland Garros range – PEUGEOT 108 Roland Garros and PEUGEOT 208 Roland Garros – is on display in a dedicated area, watched over by Belinda Bencic, the Swiss women’s tennis prodigy and PEUGEOT’s ambassador in Switzerland.

PEUGEOT, the only brand in the world which covers all of today’s mobility needs, will also be exhibiting the new electrically-assisted bicycles by PEUGEOT CYCLES, the PEUGEOT AE21 and eC01.100 HYbrid-Bikes. The eC01.100 is fitted with the new Bosch Active Line 400 Wh (500 Wh optional) system and the NuVinci Harmony Optimized H!Sync continusly variable automatic transmission, which makes the ride even smoother and increases the autonomy.

PEUGEOT will be inviting its visitors to sit down, relax and recharge their mobiles in a lounge area on a stand also decked in copper-coloured Coupe Franche livery. There will also be a Shopping area for them, where the iconic PEUGEOT salt and pepper mills will be on sale along with a wide range of spin-off products.

Connectivity: For calm and connected journeys

PEUGEOT is inviting visitors to the Geneva Motor Show to discover its new generation of connected services. The new PEUGEOT capacitive touchscreen includes all the services used for simplifying journeys and driving. Simply touch the screen lightly with your finger or use voice control.

Voice recognition provides additional security, especially for using the Navigation, Telephone and Media features without taking your eyes off the road.

The new generation of PEUGEOT connected 3D navigation, controlled by voice recognition and/or using the touch-screen includes free lifetime updates of the mapping 4 times a year and the associated PEUGEOT Connect connected services for 3 years [4].

The location and prices of service stations and car parks

Weather information

Alert Zones completes the offer as an option.

Thanks to real-time traffic information, this new PEUGEOT navigation system saves time and brings peace of mind by avoiding traffic jams.

PEUGEOT Connect Nav also integrates the Mirror Screen function so that you can use smartphone applications on the Peugeot 7″ touchscreen. The Mirror Screen is offered with both Apple CarPlayTM and Mirrorlink® technology to guarantee a wider range of compatible smartphones.

PEUGEOT Scooters: the story goes on, on 2 and 3 wheels

The world’s oldest brand for motorised two-wheelers will again be on the PEUGEOT stand at the Geneva Motor Show. An opportunity to present 3 flagship scooters from its range:

Driving Beyond – Another Step Forward with SUVs and Electric Power

Tokyo, February 23, 2016 — Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) will debut the MITSUBISHI eX Concept*1 at the 86th Geneva International Motor Show*2. Premiering for the first time in Europe, the MITSUBISHI eX Concept comes in the form of a compact SUV driven by a next-generation EV system which gives it a cruising range of 400 km. The concept embodies MMC’s theme of Driving Beyond – Another Step Forward with SUVs and Electric Power.

Joining the MITSUBISHI eX Concept at the MMC booth will be a total of 13 vehicles (10 on Press Days) including: global debuts of L200*3GEOSEEK*4 Concept and the ASX*5 GEOSEEK Concept – both accessorized to reflect outdoor adventure – as well as the facelifted 2017 ASX.

Other attractions at the MMC booth will include a chassis model of the Outlander PHEV plug-in hybrid EV joined by another panel display telling the story of 50 years of MMC electric vehicle research and development.

In particular, the Outlander PHEV chassis model will demonstrate the merits of electric vehicles in an easy to understand manner, including the main technical features of its PHEV and Twin Motor 4WD systems. In addition a visual display of electrical power supply to the home from its drive battery will be displayed.

*5: RVR or Outlander Sport in some markets

1. MITSUBISHI eX Concept
The MITSUBISHI eX Concept is a vision for a compact SUV powered by a next-generation EV system which delivers superior environmental performance, torquey and smooth acceleration, and whisper-quiet performance. It is driven through the Twin Motor 4WD and S-AWC integrated vehicle dynamics control systems to give it precise handling and superior vehicle stability. In collaboration with its advanced connected car and active safety technologies it provides semi-autonomous driving capabilities on expressways as well as autonomous parking car-maneuvering capability.

1) Exterior design
– The MITSUBISHI eX Concept’s active, pulsating design uses a dense, solid form that looks as if it has been carved from a single block, as well as marrying “shooting brake*6” coupe elegance and stylishness with compact SUV lines. While the luggage compartment provides ample space for outdoor pursuit gear, the MITSUBISHI eX Concept establishes styling which evokes an image of a sports crossover zipping nimbly around town.
– The front fascia takes the MMC Dynamic Shield design concept a step forward in a more functional direction. In addition to its visualization of the “shield” shape designed to protect people and car alike, the daytime running lamps and turn signals are positioned on top of the fenders to make them more visible to pedestrians while the headlights are located under the ends of the bumper to prevent blinding oncoming vehicles and pedestrians.
– Another element that gives visual expression to safety and enhances the sense of assurance is the use of rubber coating on the underside and the ends of the bumper where contact is possible with people or obstacles.

*6:

A term for a coupé with flowing styling fused with a hatchback car, the term originates from British hunting-use horse carriages.

2) Interior design
– The easy-access doors without center pillars provide effortless access to and from the interior.
– The use of different coloring for the dash and door trim for the driver and passenger sides of the cockpit creates a new-look ambience and makes for an interior space which is both sporty but also bright, refined and spacious overall.
– The use of a simple frame structure covered in softshell for the dashboard, instrument cluster and other major elements of the front compartment not only creates a sense of being light in weight visually – but serves to reduce the actual weight of the car.
– The center console houses two portable batteries which can be used outside of the car to support those who enjoy pursuing active lifestyles.
– The MITSUBISHI eX Concept employs an augmented reality*7 (AR) windshield, and an Intelligent Display in the center of the dash linked to the driver’s smartphone and to AI systems in the Cloud which provides the driver with recommendations based on their interests and tastes. Using connected car technology to link up with information networks, the MITSUBISHI eX Concept creates new ways of enjoying the in-car experience.
– Among other features making for a more comfortable and effortless driving experience are Side View Monitors located inside and at either end of the instrument cluster, replacing traditional door mirrors, and a Rearview Monitor housed in the overhead console to replace the traditional rearview mirror. Using high-definition cameras these monitors reduce the amount of eye movement the driver has to make.

*7:

A live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented
(or supplemented) by computer-generated graphics or sounds.

3) Next-generation EV system
The MITSUBISHI eX Concept’s next-generation EV system combines a second-generation high-capacity, high-performance battery with compact high-output electric motors front and rear. This configuration not only makes the EV system lighter and more efficient but with further weight reductions to the vehicle itself results in a cruising range of 400 km. The 70 kW motors driving the front and rear axles deliver a total of 140 kW, enabling occupants to enjoy the kind of torquey and smooth sense of acceleration unique to the EV.
The Twin Motor 4WD system delivers power to the four wheels through the S-AWC integrated vehicle dynamics control system, which uses braking to control front wheel torque delivery and an electronically-controlled mechanical Active Yaw Control component which actively varies torque-split between the rear wheels. With AYC, the system controls torque-split between the rear wheels and helps the driver follow his chosen line more closely as well as realizing higher levels of vehicle stability.

4) Autonomous driving technologies
– The MITSUBISHI eX Concept is capable of semi-autonomous operation on expressways when data from cameras and sensors is used to analyze the situation surrounding the vehicle and to automatically increase or decrease vehicle speed or to maintain its lane or to change lane.
– The linkage of connected car and active safety technologies to make for a more reassuring and comfortable driving experience includes its use of autonomous driving technology in the Valet Parking Assistant which links car parking systems at hotels or restaurants with the vehicle’s autonomous maneuvering system and allows the vehicle to find its own parking spot, park itself and be retrieved without any driver input.

Adding a dash of flavor to the current L200 and ASX models, each GEOSEEK Concept is accessorized to express the outdoor adventurous side with their tough-look added accessories geared toward outdoor enthusiasts.

1) Exterior
– Giving expression to the toughness of these models, the two versions of the GEOSEEK Concept uses a solid tone pearl grey body finish while the parts which serve to symbolize the functional nature of an SUV (fog lamp bezels, fender lips, alloy wheel rims, side garnish, tailgate spoiler, rear bumper) as well as the eye-catching door mirrors are accented in a vibrant orange.
– To enhance their active look, the front fascia sports a mesh inner grill and a skid plate below the bumper while both are fitted with a roof basket for carrying bicycles or camping gear.
– The L200 version has working lights and hand holds fitted to the roof rails while the ASX version uses LED fog lamps to bring out the individual personalities of the two models.

2) Interior
– The mostly black trim uses the same vibrant orange accenting as the exterior in strategic areas to present a casual and sporty image akin to outdoor sporting wear.
– The seats use highly functional covering materials, with mesh fabric center panels giving excellent ventilation while a suede-like fabric provides a low-slip surface to the side bolsters.

High Wycombe, 24 February 2016 – At the Geneva Motor Show 2016, Hyundai Motor is introducing the All-New Hyundai IONIQ line-up, consisting of: IONIQ Hybrid, IONIQ Electric and IONIQ Plug-in. The world’s first model offering three electrified powertrains, IONIQ will make low-to zero-emission mobility accessible to everyone. The new approach of Hyundai Motor delivers an uncompromised design and driving experience through innovative technology, and offers customers the latest connectivity and safety technologies.

The All-New Hyundai IONIQ is an important milestone of Hyundai Motor’s sustainability strategy, bringing to market new innovative technologies and extending the company’s product range to support further organic sales growth in Europe.

Jochen Sengpiehl, Vice President Marketing at Hyundai Motor Europe, said: “IONIQ is an important step forward for our brand. We are bringing a unique new approach to e-mobility, with no compromise on design, driving pleasure and connectivity. And we’re making it accessible to more customers, further extending our product line-up.”

The IONIQ Hybrid and IONIQ Plug-in both feature the new Kappa 1.6-litre GDI, direct injection petrol, four-cylinder engine with a class-leading thermal efficiency of 40 per cent delivering 105 PS and 147 Nm of torque. The engine has been tailored to the hybrid application and is combined with the direct responding, smooth shifting six-speed double clutch transmission – differentiating the IONIQ from its competitors with a more dynamic driving experience. The mated electric motor enables pure electric driving and delivers instant torque as the chassis with rear multi-link suspension greatly enhances driving dynamics.

The IONIQ Hybrid’s electric motor delivers 32 kW (43.5 PS) with maximum torque of 170 Nm, powered by a lithium-ion polymer battery with 1.56 kWh capacity positioned under the rear seats. The instantly available maximum torque of 295 Nm is delivered by the electric motor with maximum output of 88 kW (120 PS) through the single-speed reducer transmission accelerating the car up to 165 km/h (103mph).

The customer experience inside the IONIQ line-up is enhanced through state-of-the art connectivity features like Android Auto, Apple Car Play as well as Tom Tom live services and wireless charging of your smartphone. Furthermore, the driving experience becomes digital through the 7-inch TFT instrument cluster displaying all key driver information.

A holistic and innovative safety package including Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist System, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Smart Cruise Control ensures high safety levels for drivers and passengers alike.

All versions feature the sleek aerodynamic silhouette with a class-leading Cd value of 0.24. A fluid exterior shape and natural air flow channels emphasize the aerodynamic body lines and volumes.

Blue accents on the IONIQ Hybrid and IONIQ Plug-in emphasize specific elements on the exterior and in the interior for a seamless design. The IONIQ Electric features exclusive copper coloured accents to signify electricity flowing through the car’s interior.

Thomas A. Schmid, Chief Operating Officer at Hyundai Motor Europe, said: “With our pioneering ix35 Fuel Cell electric vehicle and several hybrid and plug-in hybrid models sold around the world, Hyundai Motor already has a proven capability in electrified powertrains. Now, with the launch of our first dedicated model, we are taking the lead as the only car manufacturer with hybrid, electric, plug-in hybrid and fuel cell vehicles in production.”

Suzuki at 2016 Geneva International Motor Show: European Market Launch of New Hatchback BALENO

After celebrating its world premiere at the last Frankfurt Motor Show, Suzuki is pleased to announce the market launch of the New Baleno in Europe. The Baleno features a harmonious combination of style, packaging, performance and fuel efficiency.

Under the mid-term management plan “SUZUKI NEXT 100” Suzuki emphasises strengthening of sophisticated and dedicated manufacturing, which includes a new platform strategy. The new generation platform with increased rigidity and reduced weight is used in the new Baleno, and it contributes to fuel efficiency, collision safety, space utility, and fundamental vehicle performance like cruising, turning and stopping.

The lightweight-hatchback is powered by the highly responsive BOOSTERJET direct-injection turbo engine, or the DUALJET naturally aspirated engine which is available with the SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) featuring engine assist by an integrated starter generator.

All new Baleno was already launched in India last October and has been selling well. It will go on sale in Europe in this spring.

Suzuki invites all journalists to visit the Suzuki booth in Hall 4 (stand 4251) where further highlights are on exhibition.

*The 86th Geneva International Motor Show will be open to the press on 1st and 2nd March and then to the general public from 3rd to 13th March.

Jeep® and its legendary spirit are returning to the 86th Geneva Motor Show with a stand “packed” with history and excitement where the models of yesterday will meet those of today to celebrate the brand’s 75th Anniversary. More than just an important achievement, this is also a milestone on the brand’s ambitious future faced with the same determination which made 2015 the third consecutive year of sales success for the brand in the EMEA region and the fourth consecutive globally.

The history of Jeep is strewn with remarkable records and legendary models, starting from the unstoppable 1941 Willys-Overland MB and the famous 1945 CJ-2A (Civilian Jeep), which created the modern mass production off-road vehicle. Jeep also pioneered the Sport Utility Vehicle segment in 1946, with the launch of the Willys Wagon, featuring versatility and room for 7 persons. In addition, Jeep brand pioneered, as early as 1963, the “Premium Large SUV” class with the Jeep Wagoneer, and then again revolutionized the SUV segment with the introduction in 1984 of the Jeep Cherokee, the first SUV ever with a Unibody frame design.

To celebrate these and other Jeep milestones, visitors to the Motor Show will be shown three outstanding classic models: a 1941 Willys-Overland MB, a 1946 Willys Wagon and a 1963 Jeep Wagoneer. As further confirmation of Jeep’s path from past to present, the new 75th Anniversary special editions will be showcased on the stand and available at dealerships across the region starting from the second quarter of 2016, featuring an exciting new livery, celebratory badge and exclusive interiors and equipment.

The Jeep legend continues with the debut of Cherokee Overland priceclass, the new top-of-the-range model that combines the brand’s legendary off-road capabilities and even more sophisticated and elegant features. The spotlight will also be on the Jeep Renegade Dawn of Justice Special Edition starring in the upcoming “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” movie, and the exclusive Grand Cherokee SRT Night, the most recent example of the fastest and most powerful Jeep vehicle ever. The display at the stand (5130, Hall 5) will be complemented by an exclusive one of Cherokee showcar designed by Garage Italia Customs.

Jeep History and Milestones

Tracing the 75 years of history which connect today’s Jeep range to the first original 4×4 of 1941 means browsing some of the most legendary pages in books of the modern automotive industry.

It all started in 1941 with the production of the unstoppable Willys-Overland MB. In 1945, at the end of the war, it was transformed into the first non-military Jeep named CJ-2A ( “CJ” stands for Civilian Jeep), which became the first modern off-road vehicle.

The legendary US brand also pioneered the SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) segment, one which is particularly appreciated by the public. It was 1946 when the Willys Wagon, a station wagon with a closed body entirely made of steel, rolled off the lines (its four-wheel drive version dates back to 1949). Since then, Jeep has led the evolution of this category by continuously introducing innovations, like the Jeep Wagoneer, the forerunner of today’s Grand Cherokee, which created the “Premium Large SUV” segment in 1963. Peculiarities of this model included an automatic transmission (fitted for the first time on a 4WD) and a modern, functional body suited for city streets and dirty trails.

Two decades later, in 1984, the Jeep Cherokee (XJ) was launched. With this model, that was the first SUV with a unibody, Jeep introduced a further innovation and created a new category of SUVs . The new chassis allowed for increased rigidity, considerably decreased weight and improved fuel efficiency. A similar leap forward was made by Jeep in mid 1992 with the first generation of the top-of-the-line Grand Cherokee, which over the years would define the new reference standard in terms of style, quality and performance in the Premium SUV segment. The flagship would be enhanced over the next three generations with new technological features to perfect the car’s on- and off-road handling capacities and achieve unprecedented levels of excellence.

Another Jeep milestone was in 2007 with the launch of the Wrangler Unlimited, the only open air 4 doors 4×4. The Wrangler – first launched in 1987 and currently in its third generation – is the direct descendant of the original 1941 Willys-Overland MB and the expression of the most authentic Jeep values. The success of the model is due to many factors, but above all its natural flair for customization, as demonstrated by the sequence of special versions, some in limited edition, that have been launched over the years. Each one celebrates an important anniversary or grueling location where Wrangler is known to show off its best attributes, while ensuring a peerless driving experience every time.

Another key year was 2013 when rear axle disconnect – engineered to reduce wasted energy when 4×4 mode is not in use – debuted on the Jeep Cherokee for the first time in the “Mid size SUV” segment. But that was not all. The new Jeep Cherokee was also the first “Medium SUV” to fit an automatic nine-speed transmission to give excellent performance, low emissions and improved fuel efficiency.

A new chapter in the brand’s legendary history was opened in 2014 with the launch of Renegade, the first Jeep to enter the increasingly relevant “Small SUV” segment. Built in Italy and sold in more than 100 countries worldwide, Jeep Renegade was the first in its category to fit a nine-speed automatic transmission for superior performance both on- and off-road. And, it was the first SUV in its segment to come with rear axle disconnect combined with state-of-the-art 4×4 Jeep Active Drive and Jeep Active Drive Low.

2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Night

In Geneva, Jeep will be presenting a new limited edition of the fastest and most powerful Jeep ever, the Grand Cherokee SRT Night. It features a stealth-like appearance with the front grille bezels, B and C pillars and side window surrounds all adorned in Matt Black. The front applique is Satin Black, as is badging on the bonnet and rear lift-gate. 20-inch wheels are also finished in an exclusive Satin Black and are designed to showcase the Grand Cherokee SRT Night standard Brembo brakes. Unique interior appointments include the luxurious Black Laguna leather seats with Silver accent stitching, leather covered door armrests and centre console including light Black Chrome bezels. Available colors for the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Night include Velvet Red, Billet Silver and Granite Crystal.

When it comes to performance, the SRT Night is powered by a 6.4-liter V-8 that delivers 468 horsepower (344 kW) and 624 Nm of torque. Performance includes 0-100 km/h acceleration in less than 5 seconds, quarter mile (400 meters) in the mid-13 second range and a top speed of 257km/h.

The 2016 Grand Cherokee SRT and SRT Night come standard with exclusive Performance Pages which have been revised with an expanded array of performance timers and gauge readouts, while all-new drive modes allow Grand Cherokee SRT owners the ability to personalize their driving experience both on-road and on-track.

In addition, standard launch control mimics a professional driver’s inputs to optimize Grand Cherokee SRT’s performance by bringing engine, transmission, driveline, stability control, and suspension in line for a textbook launch.

The Selec-Track system on the Grand Cherokee SRT uses performance-tuned software to distinguish the five dynamic modes: Auto, Sport, Tow, Track, and Snow, enabling drivers to choose a vehicle setting that ideally meets their requirements and ambient conditions.

Jeep Stand

The Jeep stand at the Geneva Motor Show is typified by clean-cut geometries. The simple yet contemporary space is divided into various thematic areas to showcase the models on display and represent all the expressions of the brand. Selected natural materials – such as wood and stone – are finely worked and blended to create a setting that combines nature and urban landscapes through a parquet catwalk. The idea is to reassert the brand’s extreme off-road vocation combined with its premium DNA. The use of curved led wall surfaces reasserts the technological and innovative attitude of Jeep.

The Swiss event will also be the ideal opportunity to announce the prestigious partnership, for the second year running, between Jeep and the Montreux Jazz Festival, one of the most important music events in the world, which has an extensive music library of over 5,000 hours of live performance recordings and is listed in the UNESCO Memory of the World Program. The partnership is even stronger considering that this year will be the 75th anniversary for Jeep and the 50th for the Montreux Jazz Festival. The double anniversary underscores a shared history of innovation, evolution readiness and attitude to anticipate trends while remaining authentic and true to themselves.

Three models of the past will be telling the history of the Jeep brand, its development and its records on the stand: a 1946 Willys Wagon, a 1963 Jeep Wagoneer and a 1941 Willys- Overland MB, the latter placed on an amazing platform made with real logs of various sizes and heights. A dedicated station will be set up to allow visitors to travel on the Jeep Time Machine through the Oculus technology and get close to the models that made the history of the US brand.

An area dedicated to Mopar, the FCA reference brand for services, customer care and accessories, will be set up in the stand and showcase merchandise. Finally, by handing out informative leaflets and providing dedicated material on the stand, visitors will be introduced to the products of FCA Bank, the financial company specializing in the automotive sector. The company operates on the main European markets – and in Switzerland through FCA Capital Suisse SA – with a sole mission: to support the sales of all Fiat and Chrysler Automobiles brand vehicles through innovative financial products and high added value services dedicated to dealer networks, retail customers and companies.
