25 years after ushering in the ludospace age with an unrivalled, practical design – including a sliding side door for the first time ever –, Renault Kangoo has stayed true to its genes, pioneering and plugged into its day.
Kangoo is also a success story: Renault has sold 4,4 million of them in 50 countries around the planet. It’s the best of both worlds: a car for families with an elegant design plus plenty of space inside, and a vehicle for professionals with a generously-sized boot and sturdy build.
After non-stop upgrading and trailblazing over the years, Renault Kangoo is now available in an E-Tech Electric version for the first time in its history.
ALL THE STRENGTHS AND FRESHNESS KANGOO HAS ALWAYS HAD, PLUS THE ELECTRIC POWERDRIVE
All-new Kangoo E-Tech Electric comes with all the practical features, safety and comfort equipment, as the combustion version:
- A comfortable second row and more roominess than any other vehicle in its category: three proper places that comfortably seat three adults, and an air nozzle treating all passengers at the back to optimal comfort
- More than 49 litres of storage space including the Easy Life drawer
- An ample 850 litre boot, the best in its category, and the possibility of expanding it to 2,500 litres with the sliding second row bench (exclusively on All-new Kangoo E-Tech Electric)
- Innovative roof bars, which you can adjust without using tools, so you never run out of space and can carry practically anything
- 14 driver assistance systems, including Level 2 automation, for added safety
Outside, Kangoo still has its horizontal ribbed bonnet and strikingly vertical front, with a grille housing the charging outlet behind the logo.
Like the combustion version, the inside includes the new dashboard (with a dark brushed wood finish in some versions). The cockpit is comfortable and the driver’s seat more ergonomic. The only change is the in dashboard, which displays the E-Tech information.
The new lithium-ion battery has 45 kWh of fully usable capacity, and comprises 8 standalone and easily repairable modules. All-new Kangoo E-Tech Electric can drive up to 285 km (WLTP cycle), which is plenty for most everyday requirements and shrinks cost of ownership and use to new lows.
The batteries come with an 8 year or 160,000 km warranty. Before that, Renault will replace them free of charge is their capacity drops under 70% of their nominal capacity (SoH).
All-new Kangoo E-Tech Electric comes with a 90 kW motor delivering 245 Nm of instantly available torque for smooth driving and peace of mind in any circumstances. An Eco mode limiting the vehicle’s maximum speed (110 km/h) and power (56 kW) optimises its range.
The driver can choose among three regenerative braking modes:
- Sailing (B1 on the display): limited regeneration, for driving on motorways and expressways
- Drive (B2): default regeneration for use in a variety of situations; the effect when you lift your foot off the accelerator is similar to that in a vehicle with a combustion engine
- Brake (B3): maximum regeneration for use in traffic jams or on mountain roads
Truth be told, Kangoo E-Tech Electric is even slightly ahead of its combustion sibling.
The conventional hydraulic braking system comes with an ARBS (Adaptative Regenerative Brake System), which maximises energy regeneration.
The various combinations of traction and braking modes provide the driver with 6 options to optimise convenience and range according to how they use the vehicle and the driving conditions.
The information about the selected driving mode, electric power management and driver assistance systems is displayed on a 10 inch all-digital colour display that can be fully tailored (available as an option).
To provide the most range all year, All-new Kangoo E-Tech Electric has a dual-zone air conditioning system powered by a heat pump. The pump heats the air in winter and cools it in summer, using the same principle as reversible air conditioners. The heating system harvests calories outside and transfers them inside, whereas the cooling system removes calories from the passenger compartment and releases them outside it.
The heat pump’s efficiency is optimal between -15°C and +15°C. Besides first-class thermal comfort, it maintains the vehicle’s range – adding up to 30 km more WLTP range!
Lastly, All-new Kangoo E-Tech Electric can come with a heating windscreen, steering wheel and seats. These options provide even more comfort using only a marginal amount of power from the battery.
All-new Kangoo E-Tech Electric comes with a choice of 2 onboard battery charging systems:
- An 11 kW 3-phase AC charger for household use
- A 22 kW AC fast charger allowing you to go from 5% to 80% in 2h30 and an 80 kW DC charger allowing you to recover 170 km in about 30 minutes
This full choice of charging systems is designed to cover the needs of all All-new Kangoo E-Tech Electric users.
A storage box, foldable and very practical, receives the various cables (the mode 3 charging cable and the optional flexicharger allowing connection to a household or greenup socket) in the boot.
Plugged into an 11 kW public charging point, All-new Kangoo E-Tech Electric’s battery will top up from 15% to 80% in 2 hours 40 minutes; on a on a 7.4 kW wall box, it will do so from 15% to 100% in less than 6 hours.
Combined with the 22 kW charger, the battery has a liquid cooling system and a resistance heating system that keep the temperature at the right level to avoid affecting range and to shorten charging times.
Lastly, via the MyRenault smartphone app or Renault Easy Link multimedia system, All-new Kangoo E-Tech Electric comes with specific services including:
- Scheduled battery charging and remote battery status monitoring
- Scheduled passenger compartment pre-heating or pre-cooling
- A charging point locator for your route
- The destinations you can reach with the battery’s remaining charge

MAUBEUGE, A CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE WITHIN ELECTRICITY
Renault’s plant in Maubeuge, northern France, has been manufacturing Kangoo vehicles for the world since 1997.
This plant, along with the ones in Douai and Ruitz, make up the new ElectriCity hub, Europe’s largest and most competitive electric vehicle production centre. Renault plans to build 480,000 EVs there by 2025.
To manufacture All-new Kangoo car and van versions, and vehicles for its partners Mercedes and Nissan, all the while ensuring production quality standards remain at the highest level, Renault has invested €450 million in this facility and set up a new battery assembly workshop in it.
All-new Kangoo E-Tech Electric’s motor and chargers are made at Renault’s plant in Cléon, Normandy.

Electrified camping in the new Small Van from Mercedes-Benz celebrates its premiere
Mercedes-Benz Vans has firmly anchored its leadership aspirations for electric mobility in its strategy and is systematically electrifying all model series. This includes a range of industry-specific electric mobility solutions – also for the camper van industry. With the Concept EQT Marco Polo1 the brand with the star is providing a preview of the new, fully electric and fully fledged micro camper van based on the EQT, which is equipped with numerous innovations for the segment. The series version is expected to be presented in the second half of 2023. The Mercedes-Benz EQT (power consumption combined (WLTP): 18.99 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions (WLTP): 0 g/km)[1],[2], which is also a product innovation in its own right and will soon be available to order, is a small van that combines the variability and high-quality equipment level of the T-Class – its conventionally powered sister model – with the advantages of an all-electric drive. In the near future, the Marco Polo Module[3] a first, practical camper solution for fully electric short trips with the EQT will be available.

With the Marco Polo Module, we also have a first, simple solution for the all-electric camping trip on offer in the near future. In the second half of 2023, we plan to expand our range even further with a fully-fledged and also fully-electric micro camper. The Concept EQT Marco Polo already gives a glimpse of the upcoming series production vehicle. As the name suggests, we are expanding our Marco Polo family with both products, based on the EQT,» says Klaus Rehkugler, Head of Sales Mercedes-Benz Vans.
Innovative highlights: New fully fledged micro camper van with all-electric drive ex factory
The Concept EQT Marco Polo1 is based on the long-wheelbase EQT variant[4]. The near-production concept vehicle provides a first glimpse of the new, all-electric and fully-fledged micro camper with the star, which is currently still in development. The equipment of the Concept EQT Marco Polo1 includes a pop-up roof with a roof bed. Thanks to a scissor design, the pop-up roof can be raised easily with a slight angle of inclination to the vehicle roof. This means that the Concept EQT Marco Polo1 offers enough space in the rear to stand upright. In addition, the pop-up roof can be opened all around or in window form with a zip on the rear for that typical camping sense of freedom. The roof bed has a sleeping area that measures 1.97 metres by 0.97 metres. A point-elastic disc spring system, among other things, ensures a high level of sleeping comfort.
In the rear there is a further folding sleeping facility measuring 2 metres by 1.15 metres. Directly in the second row of seats behind the driver’s seat, there is an element with a recessed washing facility and a likewise recessed 16-litre compressor refrigerator box. Directly docked to it is one of two bench seats. Another seat is located on the left side of the vehicle in the interior (facing the rear cockpit). The drawer system built in here offers sufficient storage space for camping accessories. There is also an induction hob and a drawer that can be pulled out of the vehicle interior with a flexible removable gas cartridge cooker, so that there are two options for cooking. On the right-hand side of the vehicle in the interior (looking towards the rear cockpit) is a fold-out table which is also electrically height-adjustable. In addition, further stowage compartments are incorporated.
All furniture units in the interior can be removed easily by two people in less than 5 minutes. This means that the all-electric micro camper van can also be used as an everyday vehicle if required. With its height of less than two metres, it can also easily enter all conventional garages, multi-storey car parks and car washes in the future.
The furniture of the Concept EQT Marco Polo1 is not only functional, but also fits seamlessly into the high-quality interior of the new EQT. The design, for example, takes up the seating concept of the electric Small Van: like the seats, the kitchen, bench and bedroom elements are also done in Artico Microcut. The panelling of the furniture fronts, meanwhile, is finished in Avola cherry wood by way of contrast. Ambient lighting in the joint areas creates the right atmosphere. There is also a dark roof liner and LED lighting in the upper bed area. In total, the vehicle covers 7 USB ports, one of them being in the pop-up roof area and two in the living area of the micro camper van.
The future long-wheelbase version of the EQT, which has been used as the basis for the concept car, is painted in chromite grey metallic with contrasting elements in black gloss. These include the black-painted chrome trim at the front and rear and the special 19-inch diamond-cut wheels. The beige colour tone of the pop-up roof can be found in other elements of the vehicle – like for example the sun sail. Reddish accents on the boot and rim, among other things, bring colour into play.
Another eye-catching feature in the Concept EQT Marco Polo1: the solar panel[5] on the pop-up roof. This and an additional, removable battery unit allow the camping unit to be self-sufficient in energy for a certain period of time and conserve the range. The additional battery is stored in a drawer in the seat during use – but can be easily removed for recharging and charged, for example, at the socket in one’s own flat or house, or even at the campsite. Other highlights include the sun awning, which is attached to the side of the vehicle, and an innovative blackout system for the rear windows. These can be coloured at the touch of a button. Curtains or roller shutter systems are a thing of the past in the concept car.
«A new spin on the classics»: Camping pleasure in no time at all with the Marco Polo Module
With the Marco Polo Module, which can be flexibly installed and removed and will be available for the new EQT with a short wheelbase5, among others, Mercedes-Benz is offering a first practical solution for basic camping requirements in the near future. With the standard bed and optional kitchen unit – both classic solutions for the small van segment in the camping environment – the EQT becomes a simple travel companion in no time at all.
The bed unit offers a 2 metre by 1.15 metre sleeping surface. A point-elastic disc spring system and a ten-centimetre-thick mattress ensure ergonomic lying comfort right up to the edges. When needed, the bed frame can be pulled out forwards and the mattress folded out. While on the move, the bed frame with folded mattress is in the load compartment. The rear seats can then be used without restriction. The standard equipment for high sleeping comfort also includes manually attachable blackout elements for the window panes and a ventilation grille with insect protection that can be clamped between the panes and the frame. Also standard are two window pockets between the C-pillar and D-pillar for smaller items.
The optional kitchen unit is based on a drawer system. It includes a sink with a 12-litre water tank, a 15-litre compressor refrigerator box and a flexible removable gas cartridge cooker. Further drawers provide space for cutlery, crockery and food supplies. In addition, two camping chairs and a table are available in combination with the optional kitchen unit. The table comes with two different feet. This means it can be placed outdoors as well as attached to the centre console inside the EQT – a first in the segment.
If the bed or kitchen unit is not needed, thanks to its light weight, it can be installed and removed in a few easy steps and in a short time. When attached, it is fixed to the lashing eyelets in the luggage compartment.
The entire Marco Polo Module has a stylish, clean design and the colour anthracite. As a result, it blends in perfectly with the high-quality interior of the all-electric small van. In addition, the Mercedes star and lettering show the clear affiliation to the brand.
The Marco Polo Module can be ordered directly from Mercedes-Benz branches and dealers in the near future.
The new Mercedes-Benz EQT: the basis for innovative camping solutions and much more
The new EQT not only forms the basis for the Concept EQT Marco Polo1 and the Marco Polo Module, but also offers families as well as recreationally active people and camping fans an attractive entry into the fully electric world of the brand with the star. The electric small van will be available for order in the near future. Prices start at around 49,000 euros[6] for the EQT with 90 kW e-motor and standard length.
Thanks to the Black Panel radiator grille with central star and dynamically designed cooling louvres, the new EQT is instantly recognisable as a member of the Mercedes-EQ family. The electric small van combines compact exterior dimensions with ample space. At the same time, thanks to the protected, space-saving installation of the battery in the underbody, with a favourably low centre of gravity, it offers almost the same variability and functionality in the interior as the conventionally powered T-Class. The EQT is 4498 millimetres long, 1859 millimetres wide and 1819 millimetres high[7]. A long-wheelbase variant will follow in 2023.
Just like the T-Class, the new EQT offers many advantages that make everyday life easy and comfortable for families and the recreationally active. These include the low loading sill of only 561 millimetres, which makes it easier to load heavy objects. The sliding doors on both sides of the vehicle each offer an opening measuring 614 millimetres wide and 1059 millimetres high. This allows convenient access to the rear, and loading can be done flexibly from three sides, including the tailgate. There is room for up to three child seats on the rear bench seat.
Modern electric motor
At the market launch, an electric motor with a peak output of 90 kW (122 hp) and a maximum torque of 245 Newton metres is available. The lithium-ion battery sits in a crash-protected location in the underbody in front of the rear axle and has a usable capacity of 45 kWh. At work, at home or at public charging stations, the EQT can be conveniently charged at 22 kW with alternating current (AC) using the onboard charger. It is even faster at rapid charging stations using direct current (DC), depending on the SoC (State of Charge) and the temperature of the high-voltage battery. The EQT is equipped with an 80 kW DC charger, the charging time will then be 38 minutes from 10-80 percent[8]. The EQT is charged in the front under the Mercedes star, which is practical and convenient, especially when charging in the city in tight parking situations. A CCS charging plug as well as CCS charging cable is also included as standard for AC and DC charging in the EQT.
Sustainable business strategy covering the full life cycle
Mercedes-Benz Vans has firmly anchored its leadership aspirations for electric mobility in its strategy, and is systematically electrifying all model series. Today, customers, fleet operators and bodybuilders can already choose from four battery-electric models: the eVito panel van, the eSprinter, the eVito Tourer and the EQV. With the EQT, the electric portfolio will now be extended to the small van segment in the near future. When it comes to eCamper vans, Mercedes-Benz Vans has so far mainly worked with partners in the classic dual-invoice business. This currently applies primarily to the EQV and eVito midsize vans. In the near future, Mercedes-Benz will also be increasingly addressing the trend towards eCampers ex works.
In addition, as part of its sustainable business strategy «Ambition 2039», Mercedes-Benz Vans is pursuing the goal of making the fleet of new private and commercial vans CO₂-neutral in balance sheet terms across the entire value chain by 2039 – from development to the supplier network, own production, electrification of products, renewable energies for the use phase of electric vehicles, and recycling. To achieve this ambitious goal, Mercedes-Benz is investing a further 40 billion euros in the development of battery-electric vehicles by 2030. From the middle of the decade, all newly launched Mercedes Benz vans will be exclusively electric. To this end, Mercedes Benz Vans is developing a fundamentally new, modular and fully electric van architecture. It bears the name VAN.EA. The company plans to invest accordingly in the development of this platform for all-electric medium and large vans, as well as in production sites.

At the same time, thanks to the protected, space-saving installation of the battery in the underbody, with a favourably low centre of gravity, it offers almost the same variability and functionality in the interior as the conventionally powered T-Class. The EQT is 4498 millimetres long, 1859 millimetres wide and 1819 millimetres high[3]. A long-wheelbase variant will follow this year.
Just like the T-Class, the new EQT offers many advantages that make everyday life easy and comfortable for families and the recreationally active. These include the low loading sill of only 561 millimetres, which makes it easier to load heavy items. The sliding doors on both sides of the vehicle each have an opening aperture of 614 millimetres in width and 1059 millimetres in height. This allows convenient access to the rear, and loading can be done flexibly from three sides, including the tailgate. There is room for up to three child seats on the rear bench seat.
Cutting-edge electric motor
At market launch, an electric motor with a peak output of 90 kW (122 hp) and a maximum torque of 245 Newton metres is available. The lithium-ion battery sits in a crash-protected location in the underbody in front of the rear axle and has a usable capacity of 45 kWh. At work, at home or at public charging stations, the EQT can be conveniently charged with alternating current (AC) at 22 kW, using the onboard charger. The process is even faster at fast-charging stations with direct current (DC), depending on the SoC (State of Charge) and the temperature of the high-voltage battery. The EQT is equipped with an 80 kW DC charger, in which case the charging time is 38 minutes from 10–80 percent SoC[4]. The EQT is charged at the front under the Mercedes star, which is practical and convenient, especially when charging in the city in tight parking situations. For AC and DC charging, the EQT has a CCS charging socket and a CCS charging cable as standard.
Air conditioning by heat pump – economical and comfortable
Whether in buildings, tumble dryers or with a reverse function in refrigerators: heat pumps allow particularly energy-saving air conditioning. The EQT also uses a heat pump to be particularly energy efficient, to reduce the power requirement and to provide most of the energy for a stable vehicle range through active thermal management. The vehicle’s battery only supplies the compressor of the installed heat pump, and is not responsible for actual air conditioning of the vehicle interior.
The intelligent thermal management also ensures that when charging at a charging station, only the electricity provided there is used for pre-entry climate control. This pre-entry climate control option not only keeps the vehicle battery in the optimum operating range, but also ensures a comfortable interior temperature that is appropriate for the season. This means that the interior temperature does not have to climb to the desired level while driving, but only needs to be maintained. The energy content of the vehicle battery is therefore mainly available for the drive system.
Numerous assistance systems and seven airbags as standard
Safety is an essential brand value of Mercedes-Benz. The EQT’s high level of safety is enhanced by its stable body structure with energy-absorbing load paths, as well as its extensive range of driver assistance systems. They can support drivers in numerous situations. The electric small van also has a lot to offer when it comes to restraint systems: It has a centre airbag that can deploy between the driver and front passenger seats in the event of serious side collisions. A total of seven airbags are fitted as standard.
When calibrating the driver assistance systems, the development team placed particular emphasis on the most harmonious control interventions possible, which are hardly noticeable to drivers at first. The driver assistance systems monitor traffic and the environment on the basis of radar sensors and cameras. If necessary, they can provide warning and support.[5]
In addition to the legally required ABS and ESP® systems, the EQT is equipped with the Mercedes-Benz emergency call system as standard. It offers additional functions compared to the legally required eCall. For example, communication is not in the respective national language, but in the language that drivers have set in the infotainment system. This is helpful, for example, in the event of an emergency abroad. The Mercedes-Benz emergency call centre then notifies the nearest rescue coordination centre. Other brand-typical features: In addition to data transmission via the vehicle-mounted communication module, the most important data on the accident is also sent to the Mercedes-Benz emergency call centre via SMS – this provides further transmission reliability.
Numerous other driving assistance systems are also on board as standard. These include:
- Hill Start Assist: maintains the brake pressure when the driver’s foot moves from the brake pedal to the accelerator when moving off uphill, preventing rollback.
- Crosswind Assist: can reduce the effects of gusting wind by assisting drivers with braking action at the front and rear wheel on the side facing the wind.
- ATTENTION ASSIST: can detect when drivers are becoming increasingly inattentive and drowsy, and gives an audible and visual prompt to take a break.
- Active Brake Assist: can help to avoid rear-end collisions and accidents with crossing vehicles, as well as pedestrians and cyclists.
- Active Lane Keeping Assist: is active from 70 km/h and works conveniently with steering instead of braking interventions
- Blind Spot Assist: uses radar to observe the areas to the side of the vehicle not covered by the outside mirrors, and issues an audible warning as well as a visual warning in the form of an illuminating triangle in the outside mirrors.
- Speed Limit Assist: can recognise speed limits with the aid of a camera and displays them in the instrument cluster. It can issue visual and audible warnings if the vehicle exceeds the detected speed limit.
To further enhance active safety, Mercedes-Benz Vans offers the Driving Assistance Package for the EQT with two additional safety systems:
- Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC[6]: automatically maintains the set speed and the distance to the vehicle in front. The current speed can be adopted at the press of a button. The system uses information from the camera and the radar sensors. The desired distance can be set to four different levels. If the traffic in front comes to a standstill, the vehicle can brake itself automatically down to a stop. If the traffic moves off again within three seconds, the EQT starts up automatically – otherwise it can be started at the touch of a button or by tapping the accelerator. DISTRONIC is also available as an individual optional feature.
- Active Steering Assist6: helps drivers keep the EQT in the middle of the lane – especially helpful for monotonous driving on straight or slightly winding roads. The system uses the detected lane markings.
For additional convenience and safety when parking, Active Parking Assist with PARKTRONIC and reversing camera is available as optional equipment. In combination with the optional trailer coupling, the EQT also features Trailer Stabilisation Assist. If the vehicle combination begins to sway, the system uses braking interventions in a bid to stabilise the vehicle.
Unique user experience with MBUX and Mercedes me[7]
With the standard MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system and access to a wide range of digital extras from Mercedes me, the EQT sets standards in connectivity in the small van segment. The strengths of MBUX include the adaptive software, the intuitive operating concept via the 7-inch touchscreen or the touch control buttons on the steering wheel, the smartphone integration of Apple Car Play and Android Auto, the hands-free system via Bluetooth connection and the digital radio (DAB and DAB+). MBUX is optionally available with an integrated navigation system and intelligent voice assistant «Hey Mercedes».
What is unique about MBUX is its ability to learn thanks to artificial intelligence. For example, thanks to predictive functions, the system can anticipate what the driver wants to do next. For example, if you regularly drive to a certain parking space, this destination is automatically suggested as soon as the navigation system recognizes the route. All the driver has to do is confirm and all the information about the route is available.
With MBUX, customers already have access to digital extras such as Live Traffic Information. With Mercedes me, the EQT becomes even more intelligent. Because before and after the journey or even on the road, additional functions can be used. All you have to do is link the small van to a Mercedes me account in the Mercedes me portal and accept the terms of use. This allows customers to receive important information on topics such as the availability of charging stations, charging power, costs or plug type even before they stop charging. In addition, the Mercedes me app or the media display in the vehicle can be used to display the current remaining range as well as public charging stations in the vicinity or at the destination.
Charging on the road at more and more public charging stations
Mercedes me Charge[8] gives Mercedes-EQ customers convenient access to public charging points from various providers across Europe7 with just one contract. In addition, after storing the desired payment method just once, they benefit from an integrated payment function with simple billing.[9] The Mercedes me App shows the precise location, current availability and prices at the selected charging station. At the charging station, authentication takes place via the display in the MBUX multimedia system, the Mercedes me App or the Mercedes me Charge charging card. Everything else is managed automatically via Mercedes me Charge.
Sustainable business strategy covering the full life cycle
Mercedes-Benz Vans has firmly anchored its leadership aspirations for electric mobility in its strategy, and is systematically electrifying all model series. Today, customers, fleet operators and body manufacturers can already choose from four battery-electric models: the eVito Panel Van, the eSprinter, the eVito Tourer and the EQV. With the EQT, the electric portfolio will now be extended to the small van segment in the near future.

Mercedes-Benz eCitan – the fully electric small van for inner-city delivery and service operations
Mercedes-Benz Vans sets another example for locally CO2-emission-free transport: following the model series in the medium and large van segments, the vehicles in the compact van class will soon also be available to order as all-electric variants. In the commercial van segment, the eCitan is being launched as a Panel Van with a choice of two lengths: the 4498 mm compact version and the 4922 mm long version. As a Tourer (combined power consumption: 19.16 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 0 g/km[1]) for commercial passenger transport, it will initially be available as a «compact» version, with the long version appearing at a slightly later date. Depending on the model, the operating range is between 280 and 284 kilometres1 according to WLTP. This meets the needs of commercial customers who frequently use the small van models as courier, shuttle and delivery vehicles in urban areas. At fast-charging stations, the 45 kWh battery is charged from 10 to 80 percent SoC (state of charge)[2] within 38 minutes with the installed 80 kW DC charger[3]. Major advantage: the load capacity and payload are comparable to those of the conventionally powered Citan models. For the compact panel van, this is 2.9 cubic metres and up to 544 kilograms, for the long model 3.7 cubic metres and up to 722 kilograms. Prices for the 90 kW eCitan start at around 36,000 euros[4] for the compact model as a Panel Van.
At the same time, the long-wheelbase Citan is already celebrating its sales launch and is now complementing the Mercedes-Benz Vans model range for inner-city delivery and service traffic. It starts as a Panel Van. Tourer and Mixto will follow later.
eCitan Panel Van: Plenty of space and easy loading
In September 2021, Mercedes‑Benz Vans launched the new Citan which is very popular with customers. Now it is followed by the fully electric version, the eCitan. It offers all the advantages of the conventionally powered small van, with no compromises. Compact exterior dimensions with a large amount of space, as well as a high load capacity, open up a wide range of possible uses in inner-city distribution, service and shuttle operations.
A wide-opening sliding door and a low loading sill height of 57 centimetres allow convenient access to the interior and easy loading of the vehicle. As sliding doors are particularly practical in tight parking spaces, a second one is available on request. The load compartment is also easily accessible at the rear. The two sections of the rear door can be locked in a 90-degree position and swung to the side by up to 180 degrees. A tailgate is available as an option. As well as the fixed partition (with and without window) between the driver’s cab and the load compartment, a pivoting partition is available. A grille on the front passenger side can be rotated by 90 degrees, pivoted to the driver’s seat and locked. The front passenger seat is foldable. This creates a flat surface for transporting particularly long objects. The load compartment length is then 3.05 metres for the compact version and 3.41 metres for the long version. A trailer coupling is also available.
eCitan Tourer: For commercial passenger transport
In contrast to the Panel Van, which is optimised for commercial goods transport, the eCitan Tourer is a specialist for locally emission-free passenger transport. The Tourer already has a tailgate with rear window and a second sliding side door as standard. Alternatively, it can also be fitted with rear doors. The bench seat in the rear is 1/3 to 2/3 split-folding. Numerous stowage options make the eCitan Tourer easier to use in everyday life. As an option, tables can be folded out of the backrests of the front seats in the rear of the eCitan Tourer – useful as a writing surface for passengers in the second row or for a snack. Cup holders are also integrated into these tables. Further Tourer-specific options include the ruffled pockets installed low down on the front seat backrests.
A single-piece load compartment cover protects loads in the Tourer against the sun and prying eyes. It can be fixed in three positions, and stowed away behind the rear bench seat when not required. Protection against luggage and cargo is afforded by the luggage net. It can be set in two positions behind either the front seats or rear bench seat.
Two equipment lines, attractive MBUX package and powerful drive system
The eCitan Panel Van and Tourer are available in the BASE and PRO equipment lines. The PRO line has visual upgrades and even more functionality. For example, the door handles and the cover of the sliding door rail are painted in the vehicle colour. The interior and the load compartment have LED lighting. As standard, the eCitan PRO also comes with the Mercedes-Benz audio system, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, air conditioning, electric front windows with comfort function and plastic flooring in the load compartment. The optional Interior Design Package offers further high-quality features such as high-gloss black trim in the instrument panel, chrome surrounds on the air vents in the instrument panel and on the loudspeakers, as well as chrome-plated door handles in the interior.
The optional MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) multimedia system features an intuitive operating concept via a seven-inch touchscreen or touch control buttons on the steering wheel. It also offers Apple Car Play and Android Auto smartphone integration, hands-free Bluetooth connectivity and digital radio (DAB and DAB+). MBUX with navigation additionally includes fast hard-disc navigation, which is particularly convenient to operate thanks to the «Hey Mercedes» Voice Assistant. The other infotainment functions can also be controlled with its help.
The eCitan’s electric motor has a peak output of 90 kW (122 hp). The maximum torque of 245 newton metres is inherently already available when starting off. This allows particularly powerful acceleration from a standing start. The lithium-ion battery is positioned in the underbody ahead of the rear axle, where it is also protected against crashes. It offers a usable capacity of 45 kWh. The eight battery modules use pouch cells.
An externally excited synchronous motor drives the front wheels of the eCitan. The motor is said to be synchronous because the rotor turns at the frequency of the stator’s magnetic field. The frequency is adapted to the speed requirements of the driver in the water-cooled frequency converters of the power electronics. Customers can choose between the Comfort and ECO (range-optimised) drive programs and three recuperation levels (D- / D / D+).
At work, at home or at public charging stations, the eCitan can be charged with alternating current (AC) at 11 kW or optionally 22 kW via the onboard charger. The time required for full charging depends on the available infrastructure and the country-specific vehicle equipment. Using a Mercedes‑Benz Wallbox allows much faster charging than at a household socket.
And things get even faster at fast-charging stations with direct current (DC). Depending on the state of charge (SoC) and the temperature of the high-voltage battery, the eCitan charges with a maximum power of up to 80 kW at a corresponding charging point. This means it can be charged from 10 to 80 percent SoC in 38 minutes. A CCS (Combined Charging Systems) connector is optionally available for AC and DC charging. It is located in the front under the Mercedes star.

For additional convenience and safety when parking, Active Parking Assist with PARKTRONIC and reversing camera is available as optional equipment. It assists the driver in entering and exiting a parking space by providing steering assistance. Parking spaces perpendicular to the road can be used either forwards or in reverse, while parallel parking spaces can only be entered in reverse. If Active Parking Assist was used to park in a space, it can also be used to leave that space. PARKTRONIC can also detect and warn of obstacles to the side.
The likewise optional Rear Parking Package assists when parking in reverse. Ultrasonic sensors and a camera in the handle of the tailgate or door monitor what is happening behind the vehicle. It also facilitates reversing up to a trailer drawbar. In the eCitan without MBUX, the camera image appears in the rear-view mirror, otherwise on the MBUX central display.
In combination with the optional trailer coupling, the eCitan also features Trailer Stabilisation Assist. If the vehicle combination begins to sway, the system uses braking interventions stabilise it.
LED High Performance headlights and partial LED rear lights are available as an option for the eCitan. They increase safety at night, thanks to their wide light distribution and light colour similar to daylight. When driving on motorways they also raise the light cone slightly to suit the driving conditions. They also consume very little energy.
Just like the standard halogen headlamps, these can also be combined with Highbeam Assist. With a camera installed behind the windscreen, it continually monitors the traffic and, from a speed of 40 km/h, it regulates the light distribution appropriately. If the system detects oncoming vehicles or vehicles travelling in front, it automatically dips the headlamps. This means that drivers do not have to switch manually between low and high beam, and will use the longer range of the high beam more often. The light and rain sensor included as standard ensures excellent visibility at night and in poor weather. It can automatically switch on the headlamps and windscreen wipers when the weather conditions require it. LED front fog lamps are available as an option.
The eCitan is also well equipped with restraint systems to protect the vehicle’s occupants: The Panel Van is equipped with six airbags as standard. Front airbags, windowbags, thorax sidebags. The Citan Tourer also has a seventh airbag, a centre airbag which can deploy between the driver and co-driver seats in the event of a severe side collision, thus reducing the risk of mutual head contact.

The conventionally powered Citan Panel Van with a long wheelbase will be delivered to the first markets in early summer. Prices start at 28,390 euros4 for the Citan 110 CDI with 70 kW (95 hp) in the BASE equipment line.
With a loading capacity of 3.62 cubic meters, it offers delivery services and craftsmen even more space for goods and equipment (+ 0.72 m³ compared to the compact model). The usable loading length is 2.17 meters to the partition wall and the payload is up to 855 kilograms.
The long-wheelbase version of the Citan is available in three engine variants. The two diesel models have an output of 70 kW (95 hp) and 85 kW (116 hp). The top-of-the-range model with petrol engine has an output of 96 kW (131 hp). The long panel van has the same standard equipment and all optional equipment as the compact model.
