    Nueva Plataforma MQB VW

No lo he visto en ningún lado, y lo pongo aquí, ya que creo es el lugar más apropiado…si es repost-eria fina, que el moderador lo fulmine 😀

On 01st February Volkswagen Group announced the fourth and final part of their grand plan – modular platforms covering all segments of their passenger car business, from Audi to Porsche. What on earth does this mean?

Core vehicle architecture based around common key components (seat frame, HVAC module, engines / transmission packages, electronic modules, electric architecture).
Common engine / transmission package position.
Common main load bearing body box members (front and rear chassis rails, front bulk head, sills)
Engineered to allow for different wheelbase and track widths to be produced.
Branding is achieved by unique upper structure, with ‘plug and play’ inner pressings to allow for body style variations with minimal additional parts.
All possible variations of powertrain engineered for the platform from the outset, even if the products are not introduced for some years.
This is how the four platform architectures would cover every single model type produced by Volkswagen Group (noting that Porsche is partly owned by VWG):

New Small Family. The platform strategy is already rolled out. Engineered around a brand new 1 litre three cylinder engine (petrol, turbo petrol and turbo diesel), but already packaged for pure EV, CNG and hybrid power – along with the two boy styles (3dr and 5dr hatch).

    – Volkswagen Up!

    – Seat Mii

    – Skoda Citigo

MQB. Only two versions so far have been announced – the Audi A3 and Volkswagen Golf VII. Both will share brand new modular engines (petrol and diesel) along with all possible alternative powertrains (CNG, hybrid and EV). However the platform will be applied to all of the following models as they replaced:

    – Volkswagen – Polo, Golf, Golf Plus, Jetta, Touran, Beetle, Eos, Sharan, Passat, ‘CC’

    – Audi – A1, A3, Q3, TT

    – Seat – Ibiza, Lean, Exeo, Alhambra. Altea may not be replaced.

    – Skoda – Fabia, ConceptL (new model range yet to be announced), Rapid (new emerging market car), Roomster, Yeti, Octavia, Superb

MLB. The platform strategy is already rolled out –

    – Audi – A4, A5, Q5, A6, A7 Sportback, A8 (key architecture is shared even though the body is mostly aluminium).

MSB. This platform strategy was initiated in 2011, so has not been rolled out yet. It builds on the principles that lead to the Touareg / Q7 / Cayenne sharing much body engineering, and the in-house building block programmes that lead to Boxster / Cayman / 911 sharing so much technology for the past two generations. First programme is apparently a 2+2 GT to take over from the old 928, but the big money will be on the replacement for the Q7 / Cayenne / Touareg. This would affect:

    – Volkswagen – Touareg, possible replacement for Phaeton (will they, won’t they?).

    – Audi – Q7, possible halo product above the A8.

    – Bentley – Continental GT / GTC, Mulsanne, SUV (underway…)

    – Lamborghini – possible GT (long shot).

    – Porsche – Panamera, Cayenne, 2+2 GT.

    Muy interessante!! 🙂
